James Karstetter, BSN, MBA, RN, FACHE
Jamie Karstetter is Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer at UPMC Western Maryland. He is responsible for directing policy and clinical initiatives for all aspects of patient care delivery and related services through value-based care models.
His scope of responsibility includes medical-surgical, critical care, emergency medicine/trauma, observation, care coordination, dialysis, infection prevention, laboratory services, respiratory, patient experience, professional development, rehabilitation, therapy and wound care services.
Jamie is focused on developing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, colleagues, medical staff, board members and all external constituents in order to accomplish organizational objectives.
Jamie came to UPMC Western Maryland in October 2000 as a cardio-thoracic nurse hired to assist the start-up of a new open-heart program and lead the newly formed post-operative care nursing unit. He previously worked at UPMC Altoona Hospital from 1990-2000.
Jamie graduated from Penn State University with associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing and holds a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare. He is a senior executive program graduate and fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Jamie is also a graduate and executive fellow of the NIST Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program.
