Holly Lorenz, DNP, RN, Chief Nurse Executive
As Chief Nurse Executive of UPMC, Ms. Lorenz is charged with the development and implementation of a single strategic vision for nursing while maintaining a consistent oversight of nursing standards for more than 40 academic, community, and specialty hospitals; over 700 outpatient sites; and an array of rehabilitation, retirement, and long-term care facilities. Ms. Lorenz has oversight for nearly 20,000 nurses.
Ms. Lorenz serves as Associate Dean for Clinical Relations, University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and is the strategic leader for UPMC Schools of Nursing. Ms. Lorenz is a Wharton Fellow for Nurse Executives and certified facilitator and educator for Development Dimensions International.
Ms. Lorenz has presented locally, regionally and internationally on financial management in health care, and models of interprofessional care, evidenced based approaches to patient safety, quality and nursing leadership. Holly is the Associate Dean for Clinical Relations in the School of Nursing, Office of the Dean at the University of Pittsburgh. Holly is also a Wharton Fellow for Nurse Executives and a certified facilitator and educator for Development Dimensions International. Additional honors include being named to the 2015 University of Pittsburgh Nursing Honorary Alumni and a nominee for the Nightingale Award of Pennsylvania for Nursing Administration. Ms. Lorenz was named one of the 60+ hospital and health system CNOs to know by Becker’s Hospital Review in 2017.
Ms. Lorenz has also been on the faculty at the Community College of Allegheny County and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She received both her Baccalaureate in Nursing Degree and her Masters of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
Ms. Lorenz shares her vast knowledge and expertise in nursing leadership as a member on several influential boards. Being an inaugural member of the Pennsylvania Action Coalition State Steering Committee and Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Action Coalition allows Ms. Lorenz to advance nursing education and practice in the state of Pennsylvania. Additionally, Ms. Lorenz is active on the Duquesne University School of Nursing and Capella University Advisory Boards, Family House Executive Board, Carlow University Trustee, as well as numerous UPMC Boards. Ms. Lorenz is past President of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Executives.
